The newly inaugurated Mopa International Airport or Manohar International Airport will start its operations on January 5, 2023. This airport is aimed at boosting air connectivity and tourism in the coastal Indian state of Goa. The airport development project costs Rs 2,879 crore ($348 million). Its first phase of development will be able to welcome airlines and passengers with 18 aircraft stands and eight taxiways, including six cross taxiways and two rapid exit taxiways. Mopa International Airport's terminal building is expected to handle approximately 4.5 million passengers per year. Its capacity will gradually increase should there be future plans for widening runways and taxiways. The second phase of the airport's development should be able to handle at least 5.9 million passengers per year. Ultimately, Mopa International Airport will be able to accommodate 13.1 million passengers annually once all four stages are complete. According to forecasts, Goa will get busier once Mopa International Airport begins operations.
