Seven regional airports in the Philippines will undergo expansion and upgrades. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will be spending 600 million pesos on this project. The completion of this work should boost travel and tourism in the provinces. The airports that are part of this project are the Marinduque Airport Development, the Bicol International Airport, the M'lang Airport Development, the Dumaguete Airport, the General Santos International Airport, the Cauayan Airport, and the Catanduanes Airport. Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista says that both the government and the private sector will work on aviation projects worth a total of 1 trillion pesos to help the travel and tourism industry get back on its feet.

Meanwhile, inspection of the civil works for the New Manila International Airport (NMIA) being developed by San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has already started. NMIA is set to be the largest airport in the Philippines. Not only will this accommodate millions of passengers, but it will also be able to create more jobs, attract foreign investments, and scale up export activities.
