The Central Government has cleared the decks for the construction of a new greenfield airport at Kota, approving the diversion of 466.59 hectares of forest land. Kota has only accommodated smaller aircraft, and commercial flights were discontinued in 1995. Today, air travel to and from Kota has been consistent because of the advent of the coaching industry. In 2021, the state government requested the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop a greenfield airport at Kota.

The construction of the new airport will commence soon now that the forest clearance has been approved. The new airport is expected to serve tourists visiting Ranthambore Tiger Reserve and 1.5 lakh students studying across various coaching centres in the city.
