Adjusting to uncertain conditions

When asked about the characteristics a supplier should have in order to stand out from the rest of its competitors, especially during these times, Duygu Tecim, Business Development Director of Volkan cited the ability to adjust during “uncertain conditions gains a company a prestigious view over its competitors and gives a competitive advantage.”

Walking the talk, Duygu explained how the company (Volkan İtfaiye Araçları San. Ve Tic. A.Ş) to date has charted its own path to continued success. “Since we are working on a project basis, we had completed our procurement planning before the pandemic. We created alternative suppliers and preferred local producers rather than imported products.

“In addition, we started to produce some critical products ourselves, as we have an integrated production facility and a strong R&D unit. We prevented customer victimization by establishing a strong communication network in areas that we could not improve due to the suppliers,” Duygu note

For Volkan, Asia Pacific is one of the most important target markets, exporting to Southeast Asia for at least 10 years. “And still, our collaborations and negotiations are continuing on for some important projects,” Duygu elaborated. “Especially in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, they are very remarkable markets for us.”

Despite the pandemic in 2020, Volkan noted its continued efforts to build strong collaborations and projects abroad, expecting a turnover increase at 2.5 times compared to 2020.
